It's Cherry Blossom Time!

Right around now is the time of year when I really miss living in DC. Baseball has begun, spring fever is setting in and everyone is milling about enjoying the warmer weather. But the greatest sight of all is the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival, which commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from the Mayor of Tokyo to the city of Washington, DC. Each year, the festival celebrates the lasting friendship between the United States and Japan, which rings especially true this year with the recent unfathomable events in Japan. If you haven't had the pleasure of witnessing the absolutely beautiful sight of the pink blooms surrounding the national monuments (which has been deemed "the nation's greatest springtime celebration"), I highly urge you to plan a trip to DC! There's still time to catch the blossoms - peak blooming period ends on April 7th.

"It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
-Mark Twain
