Red Carpet Review: 2011 SAG Awards

One good thing that comes out of dreadful winter is awards season. And last night's SAG Awards did not disappoint! Trends included two of my favorites - color and pattern, along with white gowns, lace and sparkle. Onward with the best and worst dressed lists...

My picks for best dressed of the evening:
Dianna Agron in Chanel Haute Couture. I love that she switched it up with a shorter ankle length hem, which matches the trend in skirts for spring. Very pretty.
Julie Bowen in Malandrino. How bold (and cool) to wear a pantsuit! This one is sexy and chic. Her risk definitely paid off.
Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. Sooo much better than her Golden Globes dress. This red lace gown is striking. Classic and gorgeous.
Sarah Hyland in Max Mara. Adore the burnt orange color! She looks young, fresh and comfortable, like she threw this on and was out the door in half an hour.
I couldn't find a better image, but Betty White has to make my best dressed list. Perfectly age appropriate. Is it weird that I teared up when she won? And then she gave the most hilarious acceptance speech. Ever.
Natalie Portman in Azzaro. I have to admit I didn't love this dress on her at all. It's way too tight and doesn't work on her pregnant body. But she makes my best dressed list solely because it is a MAJOR improvement on her Golden Globes disaster. And her Tiffany jewelry is to die for.
Amy Adams in Herve L. Leroux. This dress is completely unique, especially up close. The wrapping and draping is so interesting, combined with her sleek ponytail - I'm a big fan.
Kim Kardashian in Marchesa. I'm not exactly sure what she was doing at the SAG Awards, but the dress is so romantic. It is certainly a welcome departure from her usual overly done-up look.
Sofia Vergara in Cavalli. The color of this dress and, let's be serious, her body are both absolutely show stopping.
Hillary Swank in Versace. So soft, so pretty.
Hailee Steinfeld in Prada. Very refreshing. I want this dress!!!
Lea Michelle in Oscar de la Renta. A very close second to best dressed. I feel like she's channeling the Halston style of the 70s. The deep neckline, the sparkle, the wrap style, the thin gold belt - AMAZING.
And the best dressed??? Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen. Apparently Joan Rivers disagrees, but I think Mila looks carefree and beautiful. Her hair and makeup perfectly work with this ethereal style and lovely pattern. It reminds me of Rachel McAdams' Oscar dress from last year. I love it!!!

Only a few eehh picks this time around:
Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika. She looked so amazing at the Golden Globes, I'm not sure what could beat it. This dress has potential but just somehow doesn't work.
Jennifer Lawrence in Oscar de la Renta. Everything about this dress is stunning, including the color, but EXCEPT the belt. She looks like a Christmas present.
Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton. Same deal! Love the dress. Love the pattern. Don't love the the awkward belt.

And get ready to shield your eyes! Here we go with worst dressed. Eeek!
Melissa Leo in Randi Rahm. I actually really like this dress, but only on a supermodel. It simply doesn't fit her.
Angie Harmon in Monique Lhuillier. Black swan? How about pink swan?
Christina Hendricks in L'Wren Scott. Oh. My. God. Terrible. Just terrible. She looks like Hugh Hefner in his pjs. She is such a sexy woman! Why cover up this much?!?
Winona Ryder in Alberta Ferretti. Here comes the bride, all dressed in white...
January Jones in Carolina Herrera. I can't help but see my grandmother's curtains. She is way too young and hip to be wearing this dress.
Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci. The necklace doesn't work at all. It's too distracting to even notice what could be a beautiful dress.
Drumroll please...worst dressed is Jenna Fisher in Fendi. I own a sweater just like this. And guess what? I wear it to WORK. On a bad day.

Made with Love

Jeez, this weather has seriously taken its toll on me! We barely have time to dig out from one storm before the next is on its way. And sure enough, after getting 20 inches of snow on Thursday, the next storm apparently is on its way within the next few days. It's so depressing. Enough is enough already!!!

Perhaps this is one reason I have been lacking creative inspiration lately. Instead, I find myself longing for warm weather and the easy breezy outfits that come with it. First on my list will be the new spring pieces from blogland favorite, Emerson Made
I am, shall we say, borderline obsessed with this dream of a company. First of all, the husband and wife team, Ryan and Emerson, are so freaking adorable! Emerson does all of the designing, styling, photography and artwork, while Ryan is her right-hand man in the business. Second, I love love love that they left the hustle and bustle of New York City for a gorgeous farmhouse, where Emerson Made is now headquartered (you can have a life and thriving career outside of the big city, people!). And finally, their company belief in "celebrating the uniqueness of the individual, the joy of being alive and all the smallness that makes up the Big Beautiful" is brilliantly gorgeous. Their spring pieces exemplify this mission perfectly and have me tossing out heavy winter sweaters to make room in my closet!
 (Dragonfly Market Dress, $215)
(Scallop Skirt - Navy Dot, $128)
 (Little Blouse, $148)
 (Mod Dress - Dot, $238)
 (Linen Topper Coat, $228)
(EM Original Bluebells, $198)
(Tiny Stars Yes Dress, $198)

Be sure to check in tomorrow for the SAG Awards Red Carpet Review! A little sneak peak? I'm loving Mila Kunis' look.

Pleasant dreams everyone:)

Bedroom Lust: Hillary Thomas Designs

Anyone ever heard the expression, "a cobbler's children have no shoes?" Well, that's how I feel about home decor. Growing up with an interior designer mother, our house was NEVER finished. Once one room was finished, we'd move on to the next and then the next, only to continually start the process all over again. To this day, as I write a design and lifestyle blog and plan to start my own creative business, I am so inundated with ideas that I can never fully commit to one plan for my own space. However, I feel as though my problem is starting to turn around with my current love for orange suzani injected with pops of blue, as featured in this post from last week. To my intense delight, I recently discovered this bedroom in the latest issue of Lonny, which goes one step further by adding another personal favorite - leopard.
Hillary Thomas designed this guest bedroom in the Pacific Palisades home of Marlien Rentmeester, Lucky magazine's West Coast bureau chief. Outfitted in wall-to-wall leopard carpeting, Brunschwig & Fils fabric for the window treatments, Hillary Thomas Designs bedding, and a repainted armoire found at Circa Who, the room exemplifies Thomas' eclectic style and her belief in wabisabi, the Japanese aesthetic of finding beauty in the imperfect.

This bedroom has solidified my current inspirational plan. I love the mix of patterns, neutrals and bright colors. Free-spirited yet preppy, classic yet trendy, traditional yet modern - the style is certainly imperfect...but it works perfectly.

Daydreaming

Well, Old Man Winter has done it again. What was already an ice rink outside is now covered in another blanket of snow and quite frankly, I'm over it!!! Lately I find myself counting the days until the clocks jump forward, envisioning colorful spring outfits, and dreaming of lazy days on the water.

Please excuse my lack of posts this week - it's been a LONG one. I'm off to enjoy a girls' weekend with my BFFs who have traveled from down south. A little snow and plunging temperatures won't get in our way of having some mischievous fun;) Happy weekend everyone!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 Golden Globes

I should have posted this yesterday, but it was the Monday that just wouldn't end until I passed out on my couch, glass of wine still in hand, while watching The Bachelor, so please forgive me.

Sunday's Red Carpet extravaganza at the Golden Globes can be summed up in one word...interesting. Many fashion risks were taken - some I loved, some were so-so, and some were just plain awful (ahem Scarlet Johanson). But I have to say that I was entertained by celebrities stepping away from the comfort zone of ruffly ballgowns and subdued blushy nude colors. You really didn't know who was going to show up in what in what next. Whether it was good or bad, we were always surprised. And THAT I loved.

While nudes and beiges certainly still reigned, several other trends prevailed - namely long sleeves, pouffy shoulders, low scooping backs, black, red, and emerald. Oooooh the emerald! Some of my favorites...
Eva Longoria in Zac Posen. THIS is what you do after a big break-up! She looks like she was poured into this classy yet stunningly sexy black fishtail gown. Sorry, Tony Parker!
Mila Kunis in Vera Wang. This color is beautiful on her, it is gorgeously draped and it fits her perfectly. Mila is stepping out as a true movie star in this gown.
Lea Michelle in Oscar de la Renta. The color, the fit, the ruffles - all gorgeous. This is A LOT of dress and she carried it off with confidence.
Leighton Meester in Burberry. I know a lot of you may disagree, but I really did like this look. It's soft, feminine and on trend. Her hair and makeup were so pretty as well.
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad. This actually really grew on me. I thought it was a very elegant choice and very unexpected for her.
Emma Stone in Calvin Klein. A minimalist style with a perfect fit, perfectly bright refreshing color, and perfect plunging scoop-back. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.
Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive. My second favorite dress of the night. Love this sleek and shimmery departure from the traditional red carpet gown. The plunging back gave that extra wow factor and her body looked amazing. I don't mind the pouffy sleeves at all - she was taking a risk, having fun with it, and it showed. Bravo!
January Jones in Versace. All I have to say is WOW. I wish I had the you-know-whats to wear this stunning dress. But she did and accessorized with the right hairstyle, she looked fabulous. Risky? Yes. But I appreciated it.
Julianne Hough in Marchesa. Obsessed with the decorative neck on this otherwise simple black column dress.
And my pick for best dressed? Claire Danes in Calvin Klein. The pink color was strikingly beautiful (now I see why it's Pantone's color of 2011) and the fit was impeccable. She looked young, fresh and radiant. She was also my pick for best dressed at the Emmy Awards in her amazing sparkly nude Armani Prive number.

Here are my eeehhh looks. Didn't love them, didn't hate them. But I definitely expected more out of most of these stars...
Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham. I love Jenny Packham and I probably would have loved this look had it not been for Sandra's horrible sheepdog bangs!
Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace. Eh. A lot of people loved this dress. I just didn't. Perhaps it's because I'm not the biggest Angelina fan in the first place, but she can do better. Way better. While I do love the emerald green and the sparkle, this dress is a little too Dynasty. This fabric done in a completely different style could have been lovely.
Olivia Wilde in Marchesa. LOVED LOVED LOVED this dress! However, she totally ruined it for me with her hair and shoes. She should have gone with a simple updo and silver non-clog non-studded shoes.
Megan Fox in Armani Prive. Eh.
Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood. I know, I know, I know - it's bad. But you know what? She's quirky and she owns it. And I'm fine with that. It takes all kinds, folks;)

Aaaand finally, my picks for worst dressed...
Heidi Klum in Marc Jacobs. Eeeek!!! I've lost all faith in her as Project Runway host and judge.
Nicole Kidman in Prada. Boooooooring!
Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf. Ick ick ick. This looks like Valentine's Day gone all wrong. I can only imagine that dressing a baby bump is incredibly frustrating, but Natalie Portman is the darling of this awards season and I expected much better. What was her stylist thinking???
Christina Aguilera in Zuhair Murad. Too small. Too tacky. The lace, the sequence, the tight fit, the fishtail - too much! And it simply did not fit her right.
Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. Ok Sofia, we get it, you're sexy. But she could have shown it off in a classier more understated gown. I didn't like the color of this one or the corseted back. I would have loved to see her in a deep rich purple or teal.
Halle Berry in Nina Ricci. I think she got lost on her way to perform as a Vegas showgirl.
Julianne Moore in Lanvin. The shocking pink color and gold neckline of this dress are beautiful, but that one sleeve looks like a satin garbage bag! If this dress was done in a more simple one-shoulder but sleeveless style, it could have been classy, elegant and stunning.
Michelle Williams in Valentino. No comment.
Tina Fey in L'Wren Scott. The color is a bit blah. The ruffled sleeves look strange. And pardon me, but is that velvet???
My pick for worst dressed! Scarlet Johansson in Elie Saab. It was a hard choice between her and Michelle Williams, but I literally gasped when I first saw Scarlet Johansson on the red carpet. WHAT ON EARTH was she thinking? She looks like Bride of Frankenstein. The dress itself isn't so bad, but a girl as beautiful as Scarlet should be showing a little more skin and making a much bigger statement, especially coming fresh off a divorce. Plus, the hair ages her 20 years. Horrible!!!
